As for the night schedule AMC has it locked down because of the very popular shows like the Dead or western shows. The violent horror show has become an become addictive for many viewers of all ages. Many images on the show have been criticized for being too violent and have even driven some to prepare themselves for the “end” times.
AMC has been around since 1984 and in the beginning only showed classic films. In 1990 AMC began to air 24hrs a day and gradually shifted it’s schedule to other things. Over the course of past 2 deacades AMC has grown to become very popular and the credit should be given to the new series of shows it began to develop and air.
Now in the present time it had done very well with shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Walking Dead live stream, Hell on Wheels, Comic Book Men, Freakshow, Owner’s Manual, The Pitch, Small Town Security, Better Call Saul, Halt & Catch Fire, Turn, King Of Arms, Line of Sight, Galyntine, Knifeman, Preacher, Raiders, The Terror, Untitled The Walking Dead Spin-off, and White City.
How horror has grown into mainstream television shows and movies is still a matter for debate. Horror films often deal with the viewer’s nightmares, hidden fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown. Plots within the horror genre often involve the intrusion of an evil force, event, or personage, commonly of supernatural origin, into the everyday world. Prevalent elements include ghosts, aliens, vampires, werewolves, demons, dragons, gore, torture, vicious animals, evil witches, monsters, zombies, cannibals, and serial killers. Conversely, movies about the supernatural are not necessarily always horrific.
Nevertheless AMC is still respected for it’s western movies and re-runs of the old shows. one of the latest new westerns which has grown inpopularity is Hell On Wheels. Hell on Wheels is about the lives of the Union Pacific Railroad and its surveyors, laborers, prostitutes, mercenaries, and others who lived, worked and died in the mobile encampment called “Hell on Wheels” that followed the railhead west across the Great Plains of America.
The main story focuses on a character Cullen Bohannon, who is a former Confederate soldier who, while working as foreman and chief engineer on the railroad, initially attempts to track down the Union soldiers who murdered his wife and young son during the American Civil War. The story is sometimes violent but not that much more than any other western movie which is all about gunslinging
